Tasari wrote:Who do you think are the most famous and recognisable toons in New Eden Off the top of my head...
Chribba Garmon Shadoo The Mittani Kill2
Of those I'd expect Chribba to be on pretty much everyone's list. Garmon for his videos, for his trolls and for his alliance tournament victories. Shadoo for alliance tournament commentary, legendary rage and for being so prominent in EVE politics. The Mittani for many things but primarily for the Mittani Dot Com. Kill2 for his videos, for his alliance tournament commentary and for his community activism.
Tasari wrote:and what do you think are the pros and cons of being an 'Eve celebrity' or being closely associated with one? Your reputation precedes you... so love, fear and respect. Each can be a pro or a con depending on the situation.
Still not convinced this is market discussions material though.

Benjamin Arthie wrote:They spend time on forums and people trust them. While I'd agree that the more famous EVE personalities are all active forum posters, I think that the most famous (and certainly the ones I listed) are more famous for what they have achieved off the forums than on them.
Also, trust can be a product of fame for some people. But it really depends what you are famous for. From my list there is only one name that the common man would trust, even though most of the list are men of honor. |

Benjamin Arthie wrote:I never knew grendell held that much power. Is there any real proof of this other then his word. He doesn't, there isn't and he never said it.
But bringing a touch of reality and economic relevance to this thread, Grendell is extremely important. A lot of deals simply would not happen without Grendell and the other top-flight 3rd parties. Deliberately or by default, the trusted third party is an essential part of the EVE economy that bridge the gaps in CCP provided functionality.

flakeys wrote:Chribba and molle , these two where the first to make their name a ''brand'' . I didn't include SirMolle in my list because he's more of a faint legend now than actually famous, but he certainly would have made that list a few years ago and going back many years before that.
If you want a list of blasts from the past then we'd have to roll out Hippoking, Dark Shikari, Ricdic... etc etc

Also, Istvaan Shogaatsu.
Although really his name is nowhere near as famous as his corp, possibly because nobody can pronounce or spell it. But when mentioned among veterans, it's normally followed by a chorus of "I started playing EVE because of him". I certainly re-subbed and had my second go at EVE because of him and have never left since. |

I'd like to ask the people on these lists what they feel their greatest achievement in EVE was.
I suspect that in many cases the answer will not be the thing they are famous for. |

I suspect that in many cases the answer will not be the thing they are famous for. Molle probably would choose one of the bbq recepies as his biggest achievement :) A good rib sauce is something to be proud of :)

I suspect that in many cases the answer will not be the thing they are famous for. You're on my list :) So what's yours? Either my leadership of The Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (during their high points) or my membership of Genos Occiderre... I'm not sure which. Both were more challenging, more exiting and more fulfilling than the scam.

flakeys wrote:As i never heard of genos occiderre i'll make that choice for you : dirty rotten scoundrels it is Well that's unusual, because it's normally the other way around...
Genos Occidere
It's Garmon's corp and the majority of HYDRA RELOADED.
Grendell wrote:Being CEO of m0o at the time gave me some of my best and worst times in EVE. Leadership certainly is a rollercoaster.
I like many of us retired to Pandemic Legion and happily let other's take the strain of leadership. |

Samroski wrote:Ricdic - of Eve Bank fame, probably not active any more. My understanding is that some, but not all, of his characters were banned for RMT and he does not log on with the remaining ones.
One of the others may be able to confirm/deny that, I wasn't as close with him as the EBANK chaps were. |

Older players have also obtained trillions simply by being in the game longer and back when ISK was much easier to come by. IE CCP giving out T2 BPO's in the lottery or when CCP devs were simply giving market advise out via comms to their friends, this still happens a lot but CCP has an official policy against it now. That's some Brewlar-grade tripe you are peddling there.
